Soil-mechanics equipment is used for geotechnical suitability testing in building, civil and road construction. Without valid soil parameters, neither foundation design nor dam or road construction can be approved.
Triaxial systems determine shear parameters per EN ISO 17892-9. Direct-shear devices work to EN ISO 17892-10. CBR apparatus (California Bearing Ratio) follow EN 13286-47. Proctor compaction devices per EN 13286-2 determine the optimum moisture-density relationship. Atterberg sets per EN ISO 17892-12 give liquid and plastic limits.
